Ken Serious
Kenton “Ken Serious” Matthews was born in the parish of Manchester, Jamaica, and grew up between Prattville and Farquhar Beach in Clarendon. Both of his parents sang, so music was in the house from day one.
For more than 30 years he has carried conscious, positive reggae from Jamaica’s biggest stages across North America, touring alongside Cocoa Tea and Louie Culture. He is also one of the founding members of Rebel Salute, still one of the largest annual shows in Jamaica.
Now with Soul Stash Records, Ken’s new single “Dance” is produced by The Vega Brothers, Luis “Phat Kat” Vega and Paul “Pistachio” Vega. It fuses Jamaican roots with hip-hop grit: a record built for the dancefloor and the diaspora, about unity through movement. When the music plays, borders disappear.
